Wonderful Production!!
I was fortunate enough to attend Friday’s performance and hear the majestic fusing of the superb ensemble of soloists, orchestra and the spirited choir!! It was pure joy that catapulted me right into the Christmas spirit!! Hats off to all of them as well as the production crew for spreading such love and happiness through their voices and instruments!
Handels Messiah
Bless the previous reviewer as he must not have known that Handels Messiah is an Oratorio. Essentially an Oprah without the costumes. I am sure they did a very fine job. I look forward to seeing it this Christmas season.
Handel’s Messiah, Denver - Valiant
I love Handel’s Messiah. I am so glad Colorado Symphony and Chorus staged this performance. It was a valiant effort but somehow, for me it missed the punch this piece can have. The conductor seemed to favor a technical approach, and moved at a clip which seemed uncomfortable for the performers. In the first half, orchestra and choir were at times out of synch. The second part was more confident. During the more reflective moments the performances resonated. The soprano stood out technically. I’d like to see her with more performances under her belt to see if she can connect more. Programs were not available. I get it , it’s perplexng how unsupported the CSO is in general. I’ve experienced amazing CSO performances that have been scantily attended. I’m glad attendance was better, however, it was shocking that the audience were allowed to tramp in and out at will during the performance. Shocking and disrespectful. I am thankful that our superb CSO and Chorus gave us Messiah. Bravo!
Wonderful soloists. Chorus struggled.
Interesting interpretation. Chorus phrasing was more staccato than I have heard before. “Amen Chorusâ€, for example. Chorus, especially the Bass section, struggled with some of those very complex passages such as “and He shall purifyâ€. Soloists we’re wonderful. Overall a good performance.
Great, but
Wonderful performance....a little too much staccato, "bit off" phrasing by the choir, but the soloists were WONDERFUL...such passion and feeling by the soprano, countertenor was incredible.
More an Oprah than a symphony
While the chorus and theatrics had their own redeeming qualities I feel it really took away from the entire reason I went to the show. I felt the choir and instrumentals were forced to the background and it was more about the soloist. I went to see the symphony and I got an Oprah. Don’t like the creative limb they went out on with it.
